The Chennai Rhinos, owned by K. Ganga Prasad, are a team in the Celebrity Cricket League (CCL) that represents the Tamil film industry. They have been a part of the tournament since it began, along with three other teams.
The CCL’s first two editions were claimed by the Rhinos, who emerged victorious over the Karnataka Bulldozers in both the 2011 and 2012 finals. Despite reaching the final again in 2015, the Rhinos were unable to secure the title, falling to the Telugu Warriors. However, the team did not compete in the 2019 tournament and failed to advance to the semifinals in the following five seasons. In the previous season, the Rhinos had an even record of two wins and two losses.
The 2024 Celebrity Cricket League commences on Friday, the 23rd. The Rhinos’ first match will be against shers Punjab on Sunday, the 25th. Along with shers Punjab, the Rhinos will also compete against Bhojpuri dabbangs, Karnataka Bulldozer, and Kerala forward in this season.
The eight teams competing in this season’s tournament are Telugu Warriors, Mumbai Heroes, Bhojpuri Dabbangs, Sher Punjab, Kerala Strikers, Kerala Strikers, Bengal Tigers, and Chennai Rhinos.
This season, there will be a total of 20 matches in the Celebrity Cricket League. The initial phase of the competition will take place in Sharjah, with the remaining 15 matches being held in India, including the playoffs and the final.
The last phase of the competition, which includes the ultimate match on March 17, will take place in Visakhapatnam. The playoffs were newly added to the CCL. In previous seasons, only the top four teams advanced to the semifinals.
